Description
This 1963 Aston Martin Project 215 was raced by Phil Hill at Le Mans in 1963. His race finished prematurely after four hours. Phil Hill was the first ever American to win the F1 World Title, in 1961, and was one of the greatest ever sports car drivers, winning many classics including Le Mans three times
When Phill Hill drove the works team's 1500cc Formula 2 Ferrari Dino V6 single seater in the 1958 German Grand Prix, he did well enough to be given, after the deaths racing of team mates Luigi Musso and Peter Collins - the number two drive to Mike Hawthorn. Phil then played a major role helping Hawthorn to become Britain's First ever World Champion driver that year and in 1959 he became a Formula 1 team regular alongside Tony Brooks "Taffy" and the ill-fated Jean Behra.
In 1960 he shone as the teams best driver, setting a stupendous pole position lap at Spa in Belgium as the front engined Ferraris were otherwise dominated by the rear engined Coopers and Lotuses. He finally won the Italian GP at Monza in that year.
